SOFT NOISE ENSEMBLE (S.N.E.) presents LIVE AT BULLDOZER
S.N.E. are a Norway-based experimental trio of artists and musicians Eline Rafteseth (double bass and effects), Omar Johnsen (modular synth and electronics) and Luke Drozd (found sounds and effects).
Operating somewhere at the junction of jazz, free-improv and (soft) noise, the trio are interested in discovering a shared sonic language, the coaxing out of hidden auditory textures, and the manipulation and subverting of everyday objects and sounds.
Their music is based around a series of sonic explorations of objects via foley-like techniques of close-micing and contact mics, enhanced by double bass, and textural synth layers. What sounds can be pulled forth from a fizzing glass of water and a hydrophone, or from found and damaged cassette tape wrenched through a playback machine at varying speeds? What are the potential acoustical properties that can be coaxed of an old chair? How can these sounds be mangled, subverted and transformed into new musical forms via electronic interventions. And how can these sound-beds be complemented and further formed by the accompaniment of acoustic or prepared traditional instruments?
Broken records, bodily noises, old telephones, balloons, twigs, marbles and creaking chairs have all been part of the S.N.E. palette, a constantly shifting cornucopia of noisy possibility. A sound perhaps akin to experimental improvisers the Taj Mahal Travellers playing in the belly of an old Norsk fishing vessel.
The album was recorded live at Bulldozer, a night for experimental and noise music at Østre in Bergen, Norway, curated by Johanne Øra Danielsen and Tijs Ham.

"He sits in a small room listening to their conversations and speaking to himself. He watches his own likeness reflected in the broadcast on the screen and recognises no-one." Sensory Leakage
Ghostly violas and droning harmoniums adrift in a fathomless limbo...a somber experience, but strangely comforting, like being wrapped in a warm blanket on a gray autumn afternoon. neu-mann
